Central Province Premier Rugby Football League Launches Season

The Central Province Premier Rugby Football League competition launched their 2016 season yesterday with kick off set for next month.

The tournament was sponsored by Central Province Governor Kila Haoda with K35,000 prize money, with 48 registered teams in the competition making it one of the biggest competitions in the Central Province.

The Central Province Premier Rugby Football League has been growing from strength to strength since its inception in 2014, this year marks the League’s 3rd successive year .

Chairman of the Central Provincial Premier Rugby League, Jack Kedea, said basically the tournament is designed to identify players from districts and the rural areas through the talent identification program.

All the games will be played in the five districts of Abau, Rigo, Hiri, Kairuku and Goilala, with each district registering six teams each.

Jack said because of the Hunters program next year, the association has been tasked to reintroduce the Under 20 teams, which they have now complied with, and for 24 four teams in the A Grade Division and 24 teams in the Under 20 division.

Boasting a total of 48 teams in the competition, Jack believes The Central Provincial Rugby League competition would be one of the biggest Leagues in province and in the Country.
