Officials Need More Training

By Eric Haurupma – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Vice Minister for Inter-Government Relations, Joe Sungi, says district development officials need more training to effectively perform their duties effectively.

Therefore, he challenged the Department of Provincial and Local Government Affairs officials to conduct training in provinces, districts and at ward levels.

This training will help these officials deliver vital government services in the rural areas.

Sungi said there is lack of capacity building to deliver vital government services.

The Vice Minister said training received by District Administrators at the Institute of Public Administration are not enough in terms of managing huge amount of public funds allocated by the national government.

He challenged employees of the Department of Provincial and Local Government Affairs to go into the provincial, districts and ward levels and conduct training to District Development Authority officials.

Sungi said with the government’s K10 million marked as DSIP’s to all levels of government, the only provinces that see development are those working closely with the government.
