Deputy Opposition Leader, Sam Basil, has queried the government on when the Independent Commission Against Corruption or ICAC will be tabled in parliament.
Basil said, nothing has eventuated since the Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, made the announcement to establish the committee in 2012.
The creation of ICAC is amongst a number of outstanding bills the government has yet to table in parliament. Basil said it is important that the government comes clean on when the bill will be brought to parliament.
The decision to establish the committee came days after the O’Neill-Dion government was sway in as the ruling government in August of 2012.
The ICAC Bill once tabled in parliament, will have significant powers to investigate corrupt conduct within the public sector.
The deputy opposition leader claims no steps were taken to discuss the bill in parliament. Basil is anticipating the bill will be discussed in the May sitting.
