While most provincial towns in Papua New Guinea are gearing up for the nation’s 40th Independence celebrations, it won’t be the same for the people in Popondetta.
Northern Governor, Garry Juffa said there is really nothing to celebrate because a huge bulk of Northern people are still missing out on basic government’services.
“What are we going to celebrate?” Juffa said.
He said the province is yet to get its provincial and district support improvement program funds.
“We are a low-performing economic province, we don’t get the money we ask for, we just have promises and they [the government] are telling us this and that and about all the good things we want to hear but nothing has happened,” Juffa said.
Juffa made these commen’s at the police headquarters in Port Moresby today.
His province remains one of the least developed and many villagers in remote areas are still travelling to Popondetta to access basic government’services.
