Hagen Hospital Staff Return To Work

By Michelle Amba – EMTV News, Mt.Hagen

Doctors and nurses at the Mt. Hagen General Hospital have agreed to end their plan for a mass resignation and return to work following a meeting with officials from Port Moresby.

The delegation included Health Department Deputy Secretary, Dr. Paison Dakulala, and executives from the National Doctors Association.

The doctors and nurses have given 21 working days notice for the investigation team to finalise a report.

Staff have agreed to return to work, however are still holding on to their resignation letters and will proceed with their resignations if the investigation team does not meet their 21 days notice.

President of the National Doctors Association, Dr. James Naipo, said the best thing for all parties to do is to go back to work and wait for the report of the investigation team to be completed before any further action is taken.

“You cannot resign, you must get back to work and wait for the report to be completed in 21 days as you have requested. No patient must die as a result of these issues,” Dr. Naipo said.

All services at the hospital are back to normal operations.
