PNG Judo athlete, Raymond Ovinou, will compete this Friday in the 66kg division at the Oceania Judo Championships and Training Camp in Canberra, Australia.
Ovinou will go up against four other athletes from Australia, New Caledonia and French Polynesia. Raymond has been training at Tsukuba University in Tokyo, Japan, since February 1 this year.
He will stay at the Australian Institute of Sport, and attend a training camp from April 10-13, before returning to PNG on the 14th.
It will be the veteran Judoka’s second Olympics, and also his last for Team PNG.
He has been attending regular competitions on the international scene where focus and discipline are required to receive the best results.
While Ovinou sets his sights high, the value of hard work and the commitment that is needed to get him there, are priceless. After the Rio Olympics he aims to help develop younger athletes and promote the code of Judo in PNG.
