With just six months remaining till the staging of the BSP PNG Games in Kimbe, West New Britain, all participating provinces are well on the way to establishing their provincial teams.
The host province is the first to confirm a large contingent for this edition of the games, while Milne Bay has launched their provincial games and will finalise and formalise their contingent thereafter.
Both Milne Bay and Central launched their Provincial Games yesterday – these provincial events will provide an avenue for selection into the provincial teams for the upcoming PNG Games that will take place from November 28–December 10.
Yesterday, Central provincial administrators announced that by the end of the week-long tournament, athletes would be selected to represent the province in track and field events.
One province that’s rolling full steam ahead with their preparations is West New Britain.
Despite the difficulties at hand with training venues, due to the upgrading of fields for the national event, team manager Peter Prio has confirmed a large contingent, and the participation of athletes in all 24 codes.
The PNG Games is predominantly one of the most successful talent identification programs, initiated by the PNG Sport Foundation.
The previous games held in Lae, Morobe was a huge success – identifying a range of athletes who were selected to represent Papua New Guinea in the 2015 Pacific Games.
