Concerns have been raised over the level of support to the Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG) from the national government of Papua New Guinea.
President of the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, Chief Dr. John Momis, when speaking to EMTV claimed the actions of the national government, including the withholding of funding to the ABG was not in line with the Bougainville Peace Agreement – the agreement which formed the basis of the ABG.
He said the perceived deliberate actions of the national government were dangerous, adding that he would be discussing this issue through the proper channels.
This is not the first time that the ABG has been vocal about its treatment by the national government, claiming the unfavourable treatment is in direct violation of the Bougainville Peace Agreement.
President Momis is, however, optimistic that these issues can be resolved in an amicable manner, whether through the Joint Supervisory Body, or through direct contact with national government ministers at the political level.
