Baki On Incomplete Police Houses

By Martha Louis – EM TV News, Lae

Police Commissioner, Gary Baki, has assured the Lae Police that the unfinished police housing project at Bumbu Police Barracks will still be completed.

The construction of houses was left incomplete with funding being held in a trust account.

The trust account was closed. Therefore the police department had to transfer the funds to the new account which comes under the modernisation funding.

The Police commissioner says there are funds available for the competition of the seven duplexes at Lae’s Bumbu Police Barracks.

The funds were placed in, what they call, the “Barracks maintenance trust account”.

There has been some complications. The trust account was closed causing a delay in the completion of those houses.

Police Commissioner Gary Baki said the police headquarters had to transfer the funds from the old account to the new account which comes under the national government’s modernisation funds.

This is the Bumbu Police Barracks Housing Program that began in 2012. It costs K2.5million.

It was meant to ease the housing problem face by the constabulary.

Into the fourth year and the seven duplexes still remain incomplete.

Baki has also made plans to rebuild the Regional Training Centre also located at the Bumbu Police Barracks.

The buildings remain unfinished after construction began in 2013.

The training centre project is funded by the RPNGC under the modernisation program. It costs K3.5million.

The project includes the construction of new accommodation barracks for the female and male officers, outdoor training areas, and classrooms.

It was supposed to be completed within 24 months.
