Police Call for Support to Address Gender Based Violence

By Sasha Pei-Silovo – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Members of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) are calling on all stakeholders to support and work with police to address gender based violence.

They say that families of victims must also be more supportive, and help victims who wish to pursue cases of family violence.

Members of the CID have commended the family of Monica Naggy for cooperating with police investigations and for not taking the law into their own hands and allowing justice to take its course.

Police say that in many instances, the practice of compensation, and the lack of support shown towards victims by their families, causes victims to drop charges made against perpetrators.

Family violence is widespread, and police say that a combined effort by all stakeholders is needed to address the escalating levels of violence in the country.
