The Adaptive, Resilient and Productive Agriculture Project was launched last week in Kwikila, Central Province.
It was launched by the US Embassy and ChildFund PNG, witnessed by the officials from the Climate Change and Development Authority, NARI and Rigo District Administration and communities.
The objective of this project is aimed at strengthening the capacity of the farmers from the 12 communities in Rigo district who are victims of the long drastic drought by El Nino, and also to improve food security.
Youths and members of the communities in the Rigo District will participate in the project to address climate change issues, in the district, and to help the locals.
It is a two year project funded by USAID’s Pacific American Climate Fund at a cost of US$512, 045 and is projected to be completed by November 2017.
ChildFund PNG will build two nursery blocks for drought resistant crops and distribute seedlings to members of the communities to plant for food, while providing awareness and education on how planting should be done so the crops can wit’stand extreme weather conditions.
While others in and around the country are slowly recovering from the aftermath of El Nino, this initiative will help the communities in the Rigo district.
