The 41st National Game Fishing Titles have been set for March 19-28 in Rabaul, East New Britain.
Over 20 boats have registered, with the majority of anglers to come from Port Moresby and Lae.
President of the New Britain Game Fishing Club, Tony Henderson, said there has been months of planning and preparations to guarantee it is an unforgettable experience for both anglers and non-anglers.
The main focus of the National Game Fishing Titles is based on team fishing, in which teams choose two of the nine days of competition to be out at sea.
Last year’s titles held in the waters of Port Moresby spread across the Motuan coastline and attracted teams from Lae, Madang and also from the Tasman Sea – Australia and New Zealand.
On day one of competition, 45 fish were caught, and 21 boats entered the waters.
Yellowfin Tuna was popular catch amongst all anglers, with the occasional Sailfish, and the rare bite of a Marlin.
Major sponsors include corporate giants SP Brewery, Puma Energy, Ela Motors and Trukai Industries.
The Shootout Challenge has been set for Thursday, March 24.
The competition closes on March 27, and will be hosted by the New Britain Game Fishing Club.
