Students at the PNG University of Natural Resource and Environment have begun a sit-in strike, following the resignation of incumbent Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Warren.
Professor Warren submitted his resignation yesterday(August 9), and was accepted by the university council, he resigned on medical grounds.
Meanwhile, Dr. James Yoko was appointed as UNRE’s acting vice-chancellor until a new VC is appointed but student leaders claimed his resignation may have been spurred by maladministration by the university council.
Professor Warren entered the university in September 2016, after a series of student boycott that demanded the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor, following allegations of ill management of the university.
The sit-in strike by the students has now dragged into its second day as student refused to attend classes.
