One PNG Defence Force Soldier is dead; another is in a stable condition while another two, are in Military Police Custody.
Initial police reports suggest that the soldiers were assaulted, after the vehicle they were traveling in crashed, into a resident at Port Moresby’s Hohola suburban.
The incident occurred last Saturday and involved four members of the PNG Defence Force and a civilian.
The crash resulted in a confrontation, which led to the stabbing of a young soldier, and injuring of another.
Following the stabbing, it is believed that members of the PNG Defence Force retaliated and torched several trade stores near the area of the crash.
PNGDF Chief of Staff, Captain Philip Polewara who was at the scene during the retaliation, said attempts to stop the damaging of private properties were impossible.
Two of the four soldiers involved in the car accident are in Military Police’s custody.
And the military police will be assisting police in Port Moresby, to further investigate the matter.
At the moment police cannot confirm the total cost of damage incurred by the trade store owners, and the Defence Force is asking the public to assist pthe olice with information as part of their investigations.
