Marape: Work must begin to restore damaged infrastructure

Acknowledging the overwhelming support of relief supplies to Hela, Tari Pori MP James Marape wants the restoration phase to begin.

The Tari Pori MP says work must begin to rebuild infrastructure or services damaged by the earthquake.

He made these statement 5 days after parliament passed the new restoration bill.

Speaking in Port Moresby, Mr Marape wants authorities to begin fixing services affected by the earthquake. He said the focus must move away from the current relief work. He says the restoration phase must begin.

However, the small town of Tari is under siege with ethnic clashes. Confirmed reports 5 deaths, among them school children.

Reports say police are doing their best to maintain order. The Tari Pori MP says Police Commissioner has given the green light for a new police structure for Hela.

Meanwhile, the Finance Minister has dispelled the rumors of fracking used in the current oil and gas projects in the country.
