Sumkar MP, Chris Nangoi, says work on the collapsed Banab bridge is too slow despite several visits from State Ministers.
MP Nangoi told Parliament people are severely affected and work must commence to restore that link. Sumkar District in Madang is the worst affected as people struggle to access other services following the collapse of the bridge.
The Sumkar MP wants answers whether the K5million allocated is for a new bridge or a temporary bypass. MP Nangoi is also concerned with the slow attempt by the Department of Works.
Minister responsible, Michael Nali, confirmed to the House that work on the bypass will be pushed at all cost. He also clarified that the K5 million is for both restoring the bypass and access road.
Minister Nali says many bridges are aging and those transporting heavy machinery or cargo must be careful.
The Banab Bridge collapsed on 4th January and affected nearly half a million people from 4 different districts in Madang and East Sepik.
