More Effort Needed to Establish Green House Gas Inventory Plan

More effort is needed to collect the appropriate data from private and public agencies for Papua New Guinea to establish the Green House Gas (GHG) Inventory Plan.

Today, the Office of Climate Change and partner Japanese International Corporation Agency (JICA) held an inception workshop to discuss ways to enhance institutional framework with technical expertise for a sustainable GHG system.

According to organisers, brains behind the project must understand the concept in order to establish a better GHG Inventory Plan.

The GHG Inventory Plan is part of the Climate Change Policy which CCDA hopes to implement for a better PNG.

According to CCDA and JICA, reliable data collection is vital for understanding GHG emissions and removal trends. Technically, PNG lacks the know-how for a better policy that suits local context.

JICA, who has been the helping hand, will technically assist PNG build its capacity through proper surveys and data collection.

The move to establish the Green House Gas Inventory Plan is part of the commitment by the National Government to uphold the Paris Agreement.  Follow-up workshops will continue to technically prepare PNG create a better GHG Inventory Plan.

This is the third inception workshop held to familiarise participants or agencies working together to create the Green House Gas Inventory Plan for Papua New Guinea.
