Eight homes and one trade store belonging to the Nimukiri Goroha people along the Maghi Highway were burnt down this morning by neighboring Gereka residents over a land dispute.
No casualties were reported however 6 people were injured.
One of them is currently admitted at the Port Moresby General Hospital.
Police intervention 20 minutes later did nothing to lessen the damages brought on by the Gereka people.Residents looked on in despair as what they once knew as home, now in lay in ruins.
“We lost everything, all we have is what we are now wearing” said Susan Tangar, one of the Nimukiri Goroha residents.
Udia Boge, one of many homeowners explained that the Gereka party had in fact confronted him the day before they attacked.
At around 8am this morning the Gereka occupants attacked them armed with guns and knives.
“Six of our men are injured. They burnt all our homes, we have no where to sleep tonight,” Boga said.
The land, as he had tried to explain to them , was currently before the courts in a separate dispute between his people and the state.
