Governor General, Sir Bob Dadae, has officially opened the 7th PNG Games in Kimbe, West New Britain Province.
It began with a parade this afternoon at the Muthuvel Stadium where participating teams marched with flying colours displaying their cultural pride, into the main arena.
While most teams are still making their way to the host venue, it is anticipated they will still arrive before the games officially kick off.
Morobe handed over the PNG Games Trophy and Flag to the host, West New Britain, officiated by Morobe Governor Ginson Saonu to his comrade Sasindran Muthuvel.
Team Morobe opened the parade, followed by Central, East New Britain, NCD, Oro, Sandaun, Simbu, Milne Bay, Manus, Southern Highlands Province, and the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.
Host team West New Britain is competing in all 21 sporting codes with 517 athletes and officials.
It was the national anthem which united the 7th PNG Games. Followed by a word of prayer, that declared Papua New Guinea as a Christian nation. And then a welcome song for all contingents to the 7th BSP PNG Games to the ‘Oil Palm Province’.
The 7th PNG Games has enhanced development through sports.
