by Michelle Amba – EM TV News, Port Moresby

The 400-year-old King James Bible, the first translation of the original version made its first visit to Mendi in the Southern Highlands Province last Friday.

Hundreds of people gathered to welcome to package upon its arrival at Mendi Airport.

Accompanying the bible was its custodian, Theo Zurenuoc, alongside Member for Kundiawa Gembogl, Tobias Kulang.

The bible was whisked away and made its way through town, before arriving at Momei Oval to a reception which hundreds more attended in order to gain a view of this sacred document.

While welcoming the bible, Southern Highlands Governor William Powi said it was humbling to have the special text visit their region.

The bible was later flown back to Port Moresby, where it returned to its traditional home at Parliament Haus.
