2013 Financial Expo: Financial Education

A packed crowd turned out today atthe second day for the 2013 Financia lInclusion Expo.

Financial intuitions includingthe Bank oPNG, BeP, Westpac, ANZ and ther commercial banks displayedtheir products tothe public withthe emphasis on ordinary people to be financially literate.

 

Thetheme ofthe 2013 Financial Expo was “Financial Education,the Way forward for financialInclusion”.

 

The expo aims to provide an avenue where stakeholders can be provided an informal environment to learn about financial products and services.

 

However with most oPNG’s population centered in rural areas, promoting financial education first was vital.

 

This was emphasized by, Steven Mera, a former secretary for the Department of Commerce andIndustry.

 

Mr Mera was backed by Professor, Ojuka Onedo, an author who has just released a book on financial education in PNG

 

Professor Ojuka is hoping for the Education Department to adapt his book for financial education for all schools in PNG

 

Last yearthe expo was held in Lae Morobe Province.
