World Surf League Preparations Underway

As the time nears to hosting  the first ever world surf league for longboarding to be staged in Madang from March 18 – 25.

SAPNG president, Andrew Abel, says preparations in Tupira are taking shape as World Surf League bodies are setting up, while ground work, logistics and other necessary requirements are underway.

Andrew, who visited China recently to showcase to WSL Committee and what PNG has to offer to the world, says PNG will have the privilege of having some of the world best surfers walk and surf on PNG Soil, with the competition to be an invite only event.

He said community engagement will be a key priority as SAPNG also prepares to host events in other parts of the country.

SAPNG Secretary, Sylvia Pascoe, said the event will benefit the local land owners immensely, especially exposing the district to the world.

President Abel says the world Surf League event will become a yearly event, with the inclusion of short board competition that is expected to attract suffers from around the world.
