Health Department and Port Moresby General Hospital have decided to work togther to ensure that nurses and ther health workers have accommodation.
They began withthe LalokiIn-Service Training College Accommodation where a memorandum of understanding was signed on Wednesday.
The signing ofthe MOU will seethe Port Moresby General Hospital Beard administerthe LalokiIn-Service Training College for temporary accommodation, while negotiations continue for a lasting arrangement.
This will also give an opportunity for the board to construct more accommodations atthe hospital for nurses and ther medical staff. Also underthe MOU,the Health Department will have access tothe institution for training.
Health Minister Michael Malabag has committed to re-establishthe Port Moresby Nursing College to cater for the three hundred nursing shortage.
Meantime, following Tuesday’s Public Accounts Committee Enquiry, Health Secretary Pascoe Kase said matters relating tothe Psychiatric Ward at Laloki will be addressed.
Minister Malabagsaid Port Moresby General Hospital isthe first to go through major upgrades. The ther referral hospitals Angau in Lae, Nonga in Rabaul andthe Mt. Hagen General Hospital will be next to go through revamps.
