K34 million Cassowary Hotel Opened in Kiunga, Western Province

The K34.8million Cassowary Hotel in Kiunga has been opened. The iconic landmark structure was opened by Ok Tedi Mining Limited (OTML) Chairman Sir Moi Avei, and Western Governor, Taboi Awi Yoto.

Stakeholders, including CMCA communities of the Ok Tedi Development Foundation (OTDF), witnessed the handing over of their biggest investment in recent years. Hundreds gathered on Tuesday (April 17, 2018) to witness the ribbon cutting, plaque unveiling and its handover to Coral Sea Hotels to manage the property.

Located near the riverside township of Kiunga, this K34 million investment is a landmark structure for the locals.

Chairman of OTML, Sir Moi Avei, says it is an investment for the people.

Western Governor, Taboi Awi Yoto, shared the same sentiments saying it is the beginning of benefits and the national government needs to support mine communities of the Province. He said the hotel will not only benefit mine landowners but the revenue of the province. Governor added that farmers around the province will also be able to sell garden produce to the hotel and earn an income.

The hotel is now the 8th and final major CMCA trust investment project has delivered by the OTDF under current CMCA Trust.
