Women Upskill Ahead of World Cup

With only 16 more days, until the start of the FIFA Under 20 Women’s World Cup, a workshop, for Women in News and Sport is being conducted to assist women reporters ahead of the tournament.

Participants from Papua New Guinea, joined Tongan and Samoan reporters and journalists for the 6 day event.

The ABC Women in News and Sport Workshop, is the first of its kind to be held in both the Pacific and Asian region.

And has looked at some areas of prominence amongst its participants, such as dealing with unfamiliar sports, commentary, and technical areas such as mix zones, found in athletics and major football events.

Various themes have accompanied each day of the workshop.

The landscape of women reporters in the field, type of stories being told and the content shared, interviewing styles, as well as sport specific skills.

Head coach of the PNG Men’s National Football Team, Flemming Serritslev was a guest presenter on the fourth day of the workshop, joining a handful of prominent sport personalities in giving insights in their experiences in sporting events.

The workshop concludes by the week’s end, and will provide for its participants a more open approach to reporting, ahead  of the FIFA U20 World cup.
