Minister for Trade, Commerce & Industry, Richard Maru, told locals from a section of the Sepik Plains that the Special Economic Zone, or SEZ, will bring services and infrastructure that have been lacking. One such infrastructure is road.
Currently, a road is under construction in the East Yangoru part of the Sepik Plains. The 13 kilometer Kiniambo to Kamatogu road is the first to be built in the area.
For the eight surrounding villages and a population of less than thousand, the road has been a long time coming. It is being built at a cost of K1.4m.
Before the road, travelling on foot for hours and even days to the nearest services was the norm.
The Kiniambo to Kamatogu road is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The community is also expected to have classrooms and water services in place as work on the Special Economic Zone commences business.
