During the 11th Pacific Health Ministers meeting, a manual believed to be the first for the Pacific, was launched.
Titled as Awareness, Analysis and Action: Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in the Pacific, the manual was launched by Fiji’s minister for Health and Medical Services, Jone Usumate.
It was developed through the collaborative project member organisations of the Sexual Health and Rights Working Group together with secretariat support from the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) Regional Rights Resource Team (RRRT), who work together to address Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights goals in the region.
The manual has practical evidence based tools and information to assist the practitioners, advocates, policymakers, health workers, trainers and legislators to fully understand the key concepts on Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights.
Minister Usumate thanked the SRHR Working Group, for developing the manual together, and added that the valuable resource can be used in the health sector with relevant service providers, to address the shortage practical information on Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights.
The manual also includes analysing the needs of vulnerable groups and to take action to ensure all Pacific Islanders claim their rights to the possible standard of health and wellbeing.
