Penrith Panthers hooker, James Segeyaro, has been named in the Australian Prime Minister’s XIII train-on squad to face his birth country Papua New Guinea at the end of the month.
The 24 year old made his debut for the Kumuls in the same fixture four years ago.
Segeyaro was named the NRL’s Dally M Hooker of the Year in 2014. He missed out on representing Papua New Guinea at the 2013 World Cup through injury.
The son of the former late Kumul and great school boy’s competition initiator Iffysoe Segeyaro has finally come to realising his dreams by playing for Australia.
He is one of the four Panthers named in the side commissioned by the Penrith coach Ivan Cleary, who has taken charge of the team, and says the game in Port Moresby will be an important match for the players who are ultimately selected. He also describes it as a stepping stone for some ahead of the 2017 World Cup.
Meanwhile, PNGRLF is yet to name the Kumul side to take on Australia.
