PNGDF Engineers set to carry out Damage Assessment on Manam Island

Papua New Guinea Defence Force Engineers are set to conduct damage assessments on the recent volcanic eruption on Manam Island in Madang Province.

The composition team led by Lieutenant Desmond Reuben, comprises combat medical officials and engineers based in Lae.

The will help in building proper water wells and other needs to the villages affected.

They will also plan and assist medevac  activities in the affected areas.

According to the villagers, all their water wells have been damaged by volcanic ash falling from the volcano and it is very unsafe for drinking.

The findings from the assessment will determine how much clean drinking water, food and medical supplies is needed on the island.

Her Majesty Papua New Guinea Ship or HMPNGS Moresby will transport 20 boxes of relief supplies from the provincial government and 20 more personnel will be flown by chopper into the area to boost man power.
