Olsem Wanem – Episode 14, 2014

In this episode we look into early childhood development and education.

Early Childhood is the most important part of human life. It is the stage where children learn new skills, they imitate older people and they ask so many questions about the world around them.

Negative influences during early childhood can be irreversible. With 40 to 70% of children in Papua New Guinea exposed to domestic violence…this then raises great concern.

It is of great importance that parents and care givers understand early childhood development stages so children can get the attention they need to develop positively. Papua New Guinea early childhood education begins at home.

The early childhood period offers a unique opportunity to shape healthier, more prosperous, stable, and participatory societies.

The Department of Education with the support of UNICEF recently held a workshop for Innovative Communication for early childhood Care and Development.

Quality early childhood intervention can have positive impacts on children who are most at risk or are exposed to domestic violence.

Holistic child care is important as it addresses

1. Physical Development

2. Emotional Development

3. Relational Development

4. Intellectual Development

5. Spiritual Development
