by Bethanie Harriman – EM TV News, Lae

Nippon Paint launched its inaugural young designers award today at the University of Technology’s Architecture Department in Lae, Morobe Province.

The reputable award which began in 2008, includes participating countries from Asia such as Singapore, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Thailand, Pakistan, Indonesia, Vietnam, China, Japan, Hong Kong and Malaysia.

The award aims to expose young architects from the Asian region to industry experts.

Over 50 students in third and fourth year of study attended the launching today.

This year the theme for the launch is design with heart for a sustainable future with people in mind.

The Architect students of the University of Technology were told by representatives of Nippon Paint to design ideal concepts that will cater for the elderly, young and physically challenged.

Though the criteria will be the same for all participating countries, South Pacific Paint, the distributor of Nippon Paint, wants students to infuse culture into their concepts.
