NCD gets K400 million to maintain roads

The Nation’s Capital will see a major road infrastructure upgrade inthe coming months.

The road infrastructure project is in preparation for the coming 2015 Pacific games andthe 2018 APEC meet in Port Moresby.

NCD’s road rehabilitation is part of a nationwide plan to upgradethe road infrastructure inthe country.

Mr O’Neill said various construction companies have already been contracted to carrythese projects.

“As a part ofthe ongoing infrastructure commitment that out National Government has made duringthe formation of government andthe subsequent passing of our National Budget for 2013, we have strongly committed to fixing upthe rundown infrastructure of our nation”

“And also as part of our commitment to hosting ofthe South Pacific Games, we have made a huge commitment tothe National Capital District.

NCD Governor Powes Parkop also saidthese road projects will ease road congestions inthe capital.

“I believe it’s balanced out aroundthe country but therwise I want to say that ‘Our Nation’s Capital is a National Asset’.

“I believethe investment in our Capital is to benefitthe entire nation so it’should be welcomed by all our people, all our provinces andthe business community inthe city and all aroundthe country.

Some ofthe road projects include an overpass on Kookabura Street in Erima and Gerehu to eight mile.

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill presented a four hundred million kina cheque to Governor Parkop to carry outthese projects. It was withnessed by members ofthe NEC and NCDC’s Engineering Management.
