Villagers living along the Kokoda Trek Corridor have vowed to restore the image of the Kokoda Trek.
They met today at the Jack Pidik Park in Port Moresby to address the recent rape incident among others.
The Trek which is the life blood of the people, has been dragged into the mud following the rape incident.
Many of them fear the backlash that could possibly affect their livelihood.
The Kokoda Trek Authority is the legitimate body representing landowners.
The people have called on the national government to fully fund the Kokoda Trek Authority to look after their welfare.
Despite the trek generating millions for the government coffers the people along the Kokoda Trek corridor feels they have not benefit much from the trek.
“We want the government tell us what the future is for the people, for years we have been neglected by the government.”
“It is time the government give back to the resource owners of the Kokoda trek,” they said.
