Expensive airfreight costs have forced a rural LLG in the Morobe Province to construct its own road to link people to Lae City.
Deyamos LLG in the Kabwum district has purchased machinery to start road links to its remote station.
President, Patrick Basa says Deyamos needs a road connected with the existing Wasu road to cut back on airfreight costs.
People in remote stations in the Morobe Province, like those in other stations in the country, have been struggling with high costs of third level airline airfreight.
For remote Deyamos in the Kabwum district, the Local Level Government is planning to build a new road to Wasu.
LLG President, Patrick Basa is using development funds to purchase heavy machinery to build a road to Wasu, to link up people to coffee markets.
It’s been more than ten years, that this part of the Kabwum district has had to carry vegetables and coffee on expensive airfreights.
A road link has become a cheaper option. It follows several weeks of attention into the plight of Teptep people several kilometers from Deyamos.
They have been dealing with high costs of airfreight. Meanwhile, the National government has allocated funds that will be used by the Morobe Provincial GovernMen’s, that will be used to maintain rural airstrips.
