More than 40 health officers are being trained in Lae on how to collect, analyse and disseminate data on health related issues.
The main objective is to improve the quality of information collected so that better decisions can be made.
These health workers will represent Morobe Province in a Demographic and Health Survey.
One of the objectives of the survey is to provide to the Departments of Health and Planning, updated population and health data.
Out of the twenty-one provinces, Morobe has the biggest proportion of teams.
The Demographic Health Survey will include all citizen households in PNG, both in the rural and urban areas.
When coordinating the survey, the interviewers and supervisors will ask three sets of questions.
These will include questions on household, and separate questions to individual male and female.
The Demographic Health Survey is conducted every 10 years in between censuses.
2006 DHS is the second of such survey conducted in PNG, after the first survey was conducted in 1996.
The officers attending the training are given twenty days to comprehend contents of the questionnaires, before they carry out the actual survey in the field.
