Engineers on government funded infrastructure standard

ThPNGInstitute of Engineers has raised concerns overthe standard of government funded infrastructure projects inthe country.

The institution claimed many ofthem are substandard raising questions onthe role of quality controllers.

The institution says many ofthe infrastructures are not constructed to conform to internationally accepted standards.

Chief Executive Officer Benedict Mick says this is becausethere is a lack of competent and reliable technical audits done on infrastructure projects.

He saysthe recent collapse ofthe K30m Erima Road inthe Nation’s Capital is an example of too many that are happening inthe country.

The government he says needs to meaningfully engagethe institution to avoid such disasters inthe future.

NCD City Manager Leslie Alu saysthe K3m cost to repairthe road at Erima will be shared between Hebou construction and Eda Ranu.

TheInstitution of EngineerPNG has over 2000 registered engineers and isthe only association for engineers in Papua New Guineaand is being recognised inthe region asthe most effective engineering organisation.
