Gulf Government’s Drive to Increase Human Resources

The Gulf Provincial Government has embarked on a recruitment drive to beef up its human resource.

It currently has a staff ceiling of 450 which is not sufficient to meetthe growing demand fromthe people inthe province.

 

Recently, 43 teachers were recruited fromthe Gaulim TeachersCollege to serve in schools inthe province.

 

43 students’sponsored bythe Gulf Provincial Government were among 295 teachers that graduated from Gaulim TeachersCollege recently.

 

They are part ofthe provincial governments’ initiative to boost its human resource.

 

Ofthe 450 staff ceiling inthe Gulf Province, only 25 per cent are productive. Whilethe thers are redundant.

 

The provincial government admitted that it was lagging behind in human resource and that gap needs to be bridged.

 

Governor Havila Kavo says it is part ofthe Gulf Vision 2020 to growthe human resource ofthe province.

 

He says,the education sector inthe province is one ofthe poorest and those teachers recruited have a critical role in improvingthe education standard inthe province.

 

The partnership, forged with Gaulim TeachersCollege, has seen a total of 60 students’from Gulf Province graduate inthe last two years.

 

Apart from this it has recruited anther 40 students’fromthe college to serve inthe province.

 

Mr. Kavo says, it will continue to send more students’to Gaulim inthe coming years.

 

The province is experiencing a time of economic boom withthe onset ofthe second LNG Project and Governor Kavo is optimistic of having enough skilled workers to be part ofthe project.
