Finals for the Digicel Cup will commence this weekend in Lae, Kokopo, Kundiawa and Mt Hagen.
Eight teams now remain in the competition after the Gulf Isapeas and the Mt Hagen Eagles finished the season at the bottom of the points ladder.
The Lae and Kokopo games will be a battle for supremacy for the top 4 teams, while the Highlands region play host to the do-or-die matches.
Competition leaders Lae’sNAX Tigers will be hosting fourth-placed Enga Mioks in Lae while the Hela Wigmen will face second-placed Rabaul Gurias at Kalabond oval in Kokopo.
In Kundiawa, TNA Simbu Lions will play host to the SNS Port Moresby Vipers for the fifth spot, while in Mt Hagen the Mendi Muruks will meet the Goroka Lahanis.
The Kokopo game is likely to give the home side an easy advantage over the Wigmen after the Hela franchise was snagged with defeats in the last three games.
However, in Lae, its payback time for the Lae’sNAX Tigers when they take on the Enga Mioks.
In their last encounter, the Tigers were held to an 8-all draw by the Lae-based Mioks.
The Vipers, after two straight defeats, will look at winning this game at Dickson’s oval in Kundiawa against the TNA Simbu Lions in order to keep their finals hopes alive.
The Mendi Muruks, after an improved performance last week against the Mioks, will also look at giving the Goroka Lahanis a good run for the sixth spot in the competition.
