The event, that began yesterday brought together leaders from all over Morobe.
The event aims to chart a new future, where leaders should work together to deliver services to the Morobeans. The gathering is similar to those that happened in previous years.
“We must take note of the growing number of population growth… as one of the contributing factors towards a changing economy,” Governor Naru said.
This is almost like the provincial version of the SME summit held in Madang last year that centered around involving people in the development process.
The gathering takes into consideration the difficulties in health, education and employment opportunity in the province.
“There is an increasing number of school leavers, and most likely that many won't have skilled jobs”, Naru said.
The kivung has also looked at small agriculture businesses in rural parts of Morobe and how they can be nurtured.
One success story is the Neknasi Cooperative, a group of coffee growers of the Nawae District in Morobe Province that was recently granted export licenses and will soon own a coffee mill.
But there are serious concerns that ordinary people continue to be marginalized. And the governor says, this year and onwards will be different.
He calls it a participatory economy, where more attention will be given to local people to participate in their own growing economy.
