Parents must take some responsibility to pay for fees charged by tertiary and other levels of education institutions, says East Sepik Governor, Allan Bird.
Governor Bird says the East Sepik Provincial Government is formulating a new policy to assist fund students. He says, the policy comes as funding in past years had no proper framework policies.
He says the policy will complement Government’s tertiary and TFF policy. The policy will see each student allocated K2, 0000 as a component apart from TFF and Tertiary assistance.
The East Sepik Governor says if the open MP’s of the Province also provide additional funding, East Sepik students should benefit. “ A crucial part of the policy is that students applying for the assistance must be in schools in the province”, said Governor Bird.
The policy is, however, still in its drafting stages, with ongoing consultative meetings. Governor Bird says the policy is expected to be passed in 2018 and implemented.
For now, Governor Bird says parents must take responsibility and pay then can collect refunds from the Provincial Government.
