Women’s U-20 Team Receive K2 million

By Elijah Lavett – EM TV Sport, Port Moresby

The PNG U20 women’s soccer team has received a boost that will go towards their preparations leading up to the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup next year.

Their new coach, Lisa Cole, from the United States of America is expected in the country next week to start training with the team.

Most of their training will be held in Goroka, where the team will be trimmed down and finalised by next month.

PNGFA President, David Chung, said they will be talking to the parents if it is possible for them to stay out of school for a year to concentrate on training.

Training will be intensive, with warm up matches scheduled in Thailand, and if possible in Japan and Korea, before they fly to the United States for further training sessions and matches.

The National Gaming Control Board (NGCB) has boosted the girls’ preparations with a cheque presentation of K2 million. Acting Chief Executive Officer of NGCB, Imelda Argon, signed the contract with David Chung and said they are pleased to have come on board with the funding.
