Citrus Seedlings in High Demand

Eastern Highlands Province is booming with agricultural opportunities.

One farmer, who is also into beekeeping, is venturing into Citrus Nursery Farming.

Samuel Kuku told EMTV News that farmers from the province as well as different provinces flock to his farm to purchase seedlings to plant on their farms.

Samuel Kuku has been doing citrus nursery farming for some years now.

When EMTV News visited his farm he said that he farms only the rootstock or seedlings of citrus.

The seedlings he sells are certified and recommended by the Department of Agriculture and Livestock.

Alongside citrus nurseries, Mr. Kuku is a beekeeper.

He stated that bees and honey go hand in hand with each other.

Samuel Kuku sells his honey to PNG Hani, which is part of Lae Biscuit, and says the company has challenged him to become a better farmer by working to produce quality.

Lae Biscuit Business Development Manager, Seffie Sia, has emphasized that quality is very important when the product is selling on the shelves.

Mr. Kuku is building a new facility where he will process and extract honey, as its quality is very important for any product.
