More than 30 young participated in the opening of the eighth Youth Democracy Camp at Lae’s Okari Conference Centre last week Friday.
The youth conference is an avenue that continues to develop young leaders, teaching them to become accountable for their actions, all while remaining transparent throughout the entire process.
Morobe Governor, Kelly Naru, when speaking at the event said perceptions of corruption in PNG are sometimes misunderstood by cultural practices.
This year was the first time that the conference taught the principles of good governance for transparent future leaders.
Those involved with the conference have come from various provinces, with the aim of up skilling their leadership qualities to accountably run the nation and become future leaders.
The governor’s comments comes following Transparency International’s 2015 Corruption Perceptions Index, with PNG ranking 154 out of 177 countries in the world when it comes to corruption.
Director of the Youth Democracy Camp, Brian Alois, says accountability clears different perceptions that different people see about certain behaviors or actions.
The annual conference by Transparency International attracted more than 30 participants for this year’s event.
