Tenants Question Eviction Notice

by Jack Lapauve Jnr – EM TV, Port Moresby

Tenant, Olive Pusahai, has lived for almost 30 years in this NHC flat of Section 13 Lot 2 in Boroko’s 5 mile area. She was confronted by a lawyer from a private law firm this week Tuesday, with a notice to evict families occupying the property.

Olive says, the notice looks bogus, and questions why National Housing Corporation officers were not present to advice tenants or accompany the lawyer when serving the notice.

Four families are residing in 2 duplex flats in the prime area of Boroko. They say life won’t be the same, if the new developer moves in to demolish this area.

EM TV News understands a private company has bought the area without the tenant’s knowledge.

Tenant, Mamata Dumo, an employee of the Fire Service says, the land is State Land and officers involved in this sale of property must explain.

A senior officer from the National Housing Corporation says the sale of the property will be looked into as it is serious. He says people involved have bypassed processes.

Tenants here will be meeting NHC officers next week Monday over the eviction notice.

Similar evictions are becoming common in and around the city with tenants are calling for authorities to come-down hard on officers involved.
