SRC Receives Financial Help

Many positive developments are taking place at the University of Papua New Guinea, to reform the delivery of quality and internationally benchmarked higher education for students.

The University Administration is embarking on Small to medium enterprises for students, by presenting a cheque to the Student Representative Council, to use in the SRC’s Entrepreneurship Center to provide quality services, as well as integral development for students.

The brain child of Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs) Professor, Pulapa Subba Rao, was created to encourage small to medium enterprises at UPNG.

This comes in line with part of the current Management team plan of the University, to modernize the way business is being carried out on campus.

Vice Chancellor of UPNG, Professor Allen Mellam, said this was a historical event for the university since its inception in 1965.

Before presenting the cheque, Professor Mellam encouraged the SRC, to use the money on student related activities that will add value to student education, and also reflect the Government’s efforts to grow the small to medium enterprise sector.

The cheque of K214, 884, was the SRC’s share of canteen profits from last year, which will be used by the SRC for development of their Enterprise Center.

SRC President Bobby Yupi said the SRC had four major projects that they will be working on this year, and will use the money for that.

He also added that the SRC will take on full responsibility of how the money is spent, with the aim of meeting the needs of students on campus.
