Sea Cucumber harvest ban lift pending

A survey to find out if the numbers of Sea Cucumbers have increased within the waters of North Bougainville has been completed by the Bougainville Fisheries Division.

Bougainville’s harvest of beachdemer was banned two years ago.

The survey was conducted in the islands of Nissan, Catrets, Pororan, Taiof, Ton, Saposa ,Teop, and Irue point in Tinputz.

The survey found improvement in number of Sea Cucumbers but still lacks the size needed to reproduce.

The report is now with the National Fisheries Authority office in Port Moresby for proper analyzing before any decisions to remove the ban on the harvest of these marine products again.
