The Port Moresby Rugby League (PRL) final between Brothers and Royals went right down to the wire, with Royals claiming the 2015 PRL shield with a 26-16 victory.
They also took out the final in the women’s division, defeating PNG Ports Souths 14-12 at the Murray Barracks Oval in Port Moresby.
From the start of the contest both teams were evenly matched, working the ball up and down the field eager to draw first blood.
It was tit-for-tat in the opening half of the contest, as the Brothers scored first, only for the Royals to reply just minutes later.
That set the momentum for the rest of the half, with both sides not prepared to give in.
The second half began shakily for both sides, forcing turnovers from dropped balls and seeing them struggle to maintain possession of the football.
But in the end, the Royals hung on to be crowned 2015 champions with a 10-point victory.
