Community driven initiatives are vital for development. It is about people coming up with projects and driving these projects forward to bring change to their communities.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the PNG Immigration and Citizenship services Authority (PNG ICSA) are working in close collaboration with communities in Manus to lend a helping hand to them with their community projects that they have come up with.
On Thursday, these community plans were launched in Manus and materials were issued to the communities to carry out their planned projects.
Refugees on Manus Island will now also be involved in community development under a program called Community Based Planning Project through Refugee Settlement and Integration.
This program aims to get refugees and the local people working together to bring tangible changes to their communities.
