A member of a royal family from Africa has sent her greeting to Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare and Lady Veronica.
Princess Laila, from the Ethiopian Royal Family, said she met the Somare Family back in the 80s.
Princess Laila shared this message while she attended the 12th Festival of Pacific Arts, paying a courtesy call to the PNG delegation.
Princess Laila said that Papua New Guinea is blessed with loving and caring people and full of natural resources.
“God has blessed Papua New Guinea. It’s like Africa and we share similarities. Since seems like a piece of Africa, flew to PNG. We are one people and I love you all very much,”
One thing during our conversation that struck me was the genealogy she was speaking about. And this is history, like a jigsaw puzzle yet to be fully solved.
“I feel very happy, that you people are here because it reminds me, of my own people, because we are all from the same country. Though you are from Papua New Guinea and I am from Africa but we are one in spirit,”
Her close relations to Papua New Guinea began when she came to know the Somare family during their first trip to Guam many years ago. And since then she has become a close family friend with the Somare’s.
She also visited Papua New Guinea and not only enjoyed her stay, but loved the country and the people.
“I pass my greetings to the Grand Chief Sir Michael and Lady Veronica, God bless you all.”
The Ethiopian Princess brought gifts to the delegates and also handed over a gift for Sir Michael and Lady Veronica Somare.
She also sent her warm greetings to the Government of Papua New Guinea and the people.
