Port Moresby Mero has been crowned the men’s champions of the 2016 National Softball Championship.
Mero snatched the men’s champion title in a close encounter against Port Moresby Kakais on Easter Monday.
Kakais opened the batting box with the first K2.
However, a good hit by second batter, Bernard ToAlbert, brought him to second base.
Misfielding from Mero’s brought Kolish Pagal to the first base, that in turn brought ToAlbert home, registering the first run in the inning.
Kakais strong defence and good pitcher/catcher combination kept Mero’s scoreless.
Despite the slippery condition, Darius Kero was safe on second based.
Wearing the number 5, Joel Joseph brought him home, registering another run in the second inning.
It was a double down, from a fair hit by Kakais Captain, Eugene Tovue, and tagged out on home base.
Mero saw Tony Karani sent back to the dugout after a strike foal catch.
After a misfield by the outfielders, the score was level at 2-2.
However, with Mero’s good comeback in the fourth inning, they maintained their lead with the final score 9-6.
